GNAT General Secretary Criticises GHC 7 Offer to Teachers

The General Secretary of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), Thomas Tanko Musah, has criticised an offer reportedly made by the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission to teachers amid the ongoing strike by pre-tertiary teachers.

According to Mr. Musah, the Commission offered teachers only GHC 7 over a three-year period, describing the proposal as lacking seriousness.

He said the offer has contributed to the frustration among teachers and has further fuelled the ongoing industrial action by pre-tertiary teachers.

The GNAT General Secretary maintained that teachers expect meaningful engagement and improved conditions of service, stressing that proposals presented during negotiations must reflect the concerns and realities facing educators.

The ongoing strike has disrupted teaching and learning in some pre-tertiary schools, with stakeholders calling for renewed negotiations to resolve the impasse.
